My first job in the industry was as a wardrobe apprentice on a CBC comedy show called the TallBoyz. I worked on Season 2 with costume designer Kendra Terpenning. As an apprentice, I got to wear many hats within the costume department. The point was for me to do a little bit of everything to learn as much as possible. I worked many hours on the costume truck. I went on a buying trip in downtown Toronto and bought costumes for an Alberta-themed sketch.
Because I was working on a sketch comedy, I had the opportunity to make some pretty eccentric costumes. I altered a shirt from the mall to it more “Emo” for an emo-themed sketch. I did some pattern drafting; we specially ordered fabric with an actor’s face on it. I was a cutter and sewed costumes such as Major Freeze, DJ Crawlspace, and the Guled Face Suit.
